The McMillan family ran the Haddon Township bakery for 86 years, permanently closing it in May — or so they thought. New ownership now plans to remodel and reopen the eatery known for its cream doughnuts and holiday-season lines out the door, according to reports.

Entrepreneur Tom Whitman purchased the McMillan's building on 15 Haddon Ave.. He plans to revive the business, with the founder's grandson Doug Biemiller returning as head baker, according to 42 Freeway.

Whitman plans to spend $1.5 million to $2 million on renovations and reopen McMillan's early next year, he told The Philadelphia Inquirer. He also owns South Jersey eateries Del Buono’s Bakery and Carmen's Deli.

The McMillan family ran their namesake bakery for several generations, starting with George and Evelyn founding it in 1939. McMillan's was known for their cream doughnuts, snowflake rolls and other sweets, often getting lines out the door during the holiday season.

But in October 2024, the family listed the bakery for sale and said it would permanently close on a date to be determined. The announcement came a year the death of Arline C. Biemiller — George and Evelyn McMillan's eldest daughter, who spearheaded the business after taking over for her parents.

Arline's children and grandchildren carried on the family legacy, but loved ones said she was the glue that held McMillan's together.

Ultimately, McMillan's closed in May.
