Another Successful Week for the Bulldawgs

Girls Soccer, tennis, field hockey and football remain undefeated.

It was another successful week for the Haddonfield Bulldawgs with the girls’ soccer, girls' tennis, field hockey and football teams winning to remain undefeated.

The girls’ soccer team recorded three more victories last week to improve to 8-0, all shutouts. Matching that record is the field hockey team which also posted three shutout wins and hasn’t been scored on since its opening game.

Meanwhile, the tennis team just keeps rolling along. It began the week by winning the very competitive Moorestown Classic.

Girls' Soccer – The Bulldawgs beat West Deptford 1-0 on a goal by Laura Falana to start the week. Then Katie Johnston scored the only goal in the win over Haddon Heights. Six different players scored including Falana as the Bulldawgs overwhelmed Lindenwold, 6-0. The girls have now scored 23 goals this season and given up none. Strong defense has helped Kellie Reilly record eight shutouts.

Field Hockey – Tara Black scored the only goal Saturday as the Bulldawgs edged Kingsway, 1-0, to cap a 3-0 week for the Bulldawgs. They started the week with a 3-0 win over Haddon Heights led by Megan Johnston’s goal and an assist. In between the two games, the Bulldawgs downed Lindenwold, 9-0. They have scored 33 goals in eight games and only given up one and that came in the opener against Collingswood.

Tennis – Coach Jeff Holman likes the Moorestown Classic because the tournament has a state-wide appeal and attracts top competition. The Bulldawgs beat Holmdel in the semifinals and Moorestown in the championship match by identical 4-1 scores. Four more wins last week enabled the Bulldawgs to improve to 13-0.

Football – Two special teams’ touchdowns highlighted the Bulldawgs 42-0 win over Haddon Township Friday night. Matt Bhaya returned a punt 47 yards in the first quarter for a touchdown and Chris Dengler returned a free kick, following a Haddonfield safety, 76 yards for a touchdown.

Boys' Soccer – The Bulldawgs finished the week 1-1. They started with a 2-0 win over West Deptford on goals by Kaleb Morales and Luke Grabiak, but were shut out by Haddon Heights, 2-0.

Boys' Cross-Country – The Bulldawgs beat Audubon, 15-50, Collingswood, 15-50, and Haddon Heights, 20-45 on Tuesday.

Girls' Cross-Country – The Bulldawgs finished second in Division D at the Six Flags Safari Invitational on Saturday. Shelby Cain took third place with a time of 18 minutes 21 seconds on the 5,000 meter course. Meghan Malloy finished fourth with a time of 18:43.

This week the Bulldawgs will face some interesting challenges such as:

Tuesday when the tennis team travels to Mooretown to take on the Quakers again.

And Wednesday the field hockey team will host Collingswood. They played opening day and the Bulldawgs needed overtime to scratch out a 2-1 victory.

Friday night the football team travels to West Deptford and the winner will be the odds-on favorite in the Colonial Conference Liberty Division. Each team has won its first two games by large margins. The Eagles handed the Bulldawgs their only loss of the season last year and captured the Division. The Bulldawgs avenged that loss in the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs but want a conference title this year.

On Saturday, the boys' and girls' cross-country teams compete in the Shore Coaches Invitational and the girls’ soccer team will travel to West Deptford.
