Audubon Man Charged With Murder in Early Morning Shooting
Police say William A. Clark confessed to shooting and killing Steve Johnston early Saturday morning.

An Audubon man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment in Audubon early Saturday morning, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Audubon Police Chief Thomas Tassi announced Saturday night.
William A. Clark, 50, was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 51-year-old Steve Johnston, who was found dead in a third-floor apartment after apparently being shot in the head.
Police discovered Johnston’s body after responding to a residence on the 400 block of the South White Horse Pike in Audubon for a report of a man fatally shot around 2:55 a.m.

Clark allegedly made that call, and admitted that he shot Johnson while on the phone with dispatch.
He was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

In a recorded statement, he said he and Johnston, who was his roommate, were having a conversation inside their apartment.
Clark said he became upset during the conversation and shot Johnston.
Clark is being held at the Camden County Jail on $500,000 bail.
