'Beloved' Custodian Found Dead Inside Camden Co. School: Officials

The maintenance worker's cause of death is unknown but is not considered suspicious, officials said.

CAMDEN, NJ — A "beloved" custodian was found dead Wednesday morning inside a high school in Camden, officials said.

The woman's body was discovered in the hallway of Mastery High School as faculty arrived at around 7 a.m., police said. Her cause of death remains undetermined as of Thursday morning, but the incident isn't considered suspicious, a police spokesperson told Patch.

Investigators believe she died late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Her identity has not been released.

Mastery High School, a charter school, canceled class Wednesday because of the on-scene investigation. School officials called the employee "a beloved member of our custodial team" in a letter to Mastery families.

"On behalf of the Mastery Schools network, we extend our deepest sympathies to our colleague's family, as well as to the students, families, and staff of Mastery High School of Camden," wrote Dr. Joel D. Boyd, CEO of Mastery Schools. "Our thoughts are also with all of you as we navigate this difficult time together."

Mastery Schools is a charter program with institutions in Philadelphia and Camden.
