Wank's World: Here's a Fun Fact: Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay are a Combined 7-7 This Season
That this team has played with the likes of Pete Orr, Wilson Valdez, Ben Franisco, John Mayberry Jr., Michael Martinez, etc. for this long and have somehow won 25 of 40 games is remarkable.

I’m sorry. I just can’t do it this morning. I can’t give you the same ole’ recap. I need a day off from it.
I don’t have it in me to comlpain for more than a couple of sentences about Cliff Lee getting squeezed, getting wild, and getting beat (again). Lee dropped to 2-4 tonight. Imagine that. Lee and Roy Halladay, often considered to be the best 1-2 combination in baseball, have a combined 7-7 record this season. Of course, it doesn't help that the Phillies have scored 3 runs or less in 21 of their first 40 games this season.
Still, I’m tired of hearing that Lee didn’t have his “A game” or “good stuff”, but that he “battled”. Cool. How about you just bring your good stuff next time? That’s an option, too. I know I sound like an annoyed fan, and I am--but I’m also right.

I don’t know who I should be mad at, or if I should even be mad. That this team has played with the likes of Pete Orr, Wilson Valdez, Ben Franisco, John Mayberry Jr., Michael Martinez, etc. for this long and have somehow won 25 of 40 games is remarkable. What exactly are we supposed to expect here? Is this team, as currently constructed, supposed to score runs? No way. This team doesn’t even threaten to score runs. It’s not like they are wasting leadoff doubles, or stranding runners at third with less than one out. They don’t even get runners into scoring position to have the opportunity to choke in the clutch because they can’t produce extra-base hits, consecutive hits, baserunners, or, some days, a pulse. And it's a shame, too, because on the rare occasion they muster four or more runs of offense, they have compiled an astonishing 17-2 record.
Anyway, somebody over at another blog made the point earlier today that the 2000 Phillies fan would hate the current Phillies fan primarily because they are whiners, spoiled, and worst of all, they don't even reailze it. That's probably true, but this team doesn’t feature Alex Arias or David Coggin, either. It features former All-Stars, MVPs, and Cy Young Award winners. So like…just win. This isn’t about the fans, it’s about the product on the field. The front office of this team doesn’t need to make a move right now because A) there’s really nothing they can do until a market develops and B) they have some injured players that may be able to provide just enough of a jolt to turn this offense into something that resembles one of a Major League caliber. So let’s wait and see, but if this continues into July, then something is going to need to be done.
