Bullying Expert, Esther Williams, to Speak at Y.A.L.E. School

Private School Hosts Program to Help Parents of Children with Disabilities Prevent Bullying

Y.A.L.E School, a state-approved private school for students with autism spectrum disorders in Cherry Hill New Jersey, will host a free workshop for parents. Bullying expert, author and speaker Esther Williams, will present strategies to help teachers and caregivers coach children with autism and other disabilities in proactive bullying awareness and prevention.

Williams will discuss ways to foster compassion and respect, and how to empower bystanders to take action when they notice someone with a disability being bullied. Parents will learn what to do (and what not to do) if their child is being bullied at school or in the community. Educators will learn how to implement anti-bullying measures in the classroom and how to promote a school-wide culture of communication and caring.

“We are thrilled to offer this event is part of Y.A.L.E. School’s ongoing commitment to providing a bullying-free environment for our students,” said Peggy Chapman, Assistant Director of Y.A.L.E. School.

“Children on the autism spectrum face unique challenges when it comes to recognizing and reacting to bullying,” added Chapman. “They may not realize the difference between innocent teasing and acts of cruelty or harassment—and as a result, are more likely to be the victims of bullying, or to bully others themselves.”

Williams is an internationally known educator, author and licensed professional counselor who brings her unique style and humor to seminars, workshops and keynote speeches. She has published two books, Breaking Down the Wall of Anger and The Bully, The Bullied and Beyond. She consults with school systems throughout the United States on numerous school-related issues including bullying, anger management, ADHD and student motivation.
