Camden Academy Seniors Host Health Fair to Educate Community Members About Health and Wellness

Camden Academy Charter High School seniors host first annual health fair.

In an effort to give back to the community, Camden Academy Charter High School (CACHS) seniors are providing community members with information and resources on issues concerning health care and overall wellness. On Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CACHS seniors will host a Family Fitness and Wellness Fair at the Promise Academy Center (PAC), located on 820 Lois St. in Camden.

Being that health care education is one of the most important tools an individual can possess, the Class of 2015 is aiming to equip members of the City of Camden with just that. During the event, a number of nurses, doctors, health advocates, nutritionists, fitness trainers and instructors will be on site to distribute information about the different facets of health care and wellness, as well as answer any questions from community members.

This year’s theme for the Family Fitness and Wellness Fair is “On the Move-A Call to Wellness” and will feature various live demonstrations from wellness providers in the area, including a Zumba class and a demonstration by House Party Fitness. The event will also feature a bounce house obstacle course designed to get hearts pumping while combining fitness and fun.

Members of the community will also have the opportunity to take advantage of a number of free screenings during the event, such as weight, blood pressure and BMI. Close to 20 different health and wellness vendors will be represented at the event, including Horizon NJ Health, Be the Match, Herbal Life, Susan G. Komen, Nephcure Foundation and the Southern New Jersey Prenatal Cooperative.

“Within the vision of Camden’s Charter School Network is an emphasis on service and civic engagement. The opportunity to assist community members in need of affordable health care and help in the transition of deficient to well being is of the upmost priority to us,” the CACHS Health Fair Committee wrote in a joint statement. “Our willingness to facilitate social and health service outlets for community members starts locally. We aim to work along with community organizations in hopes of offering an array of diverse resources for the members of the community. Our goal is to advocate for a trajectory of wellness. In addition, our health fair will serve as a symbol for the ethic of service and civil engagement within our school culture.”
