Camden County Preparing for Snow as Thanksgiving Approaches

A nor'easter may result in between 1 and 3 inches of snow in Camden County the next few days.

The Camden County Department of Public Works is preparing for a storm that may dump between 1 and 3 inches of snow on the road in time for the busiest travel day of the year.

“Our public works employees are on standby and our equipment is being prepped to address any and all situations that may arise Wednesday,” Camden County Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, said. “We are continuing to monitor the developing system in order to respond to any weather condition and keep Camden County’s roadways passable to get you to your Thanksgiving destination.”

The storm, now being called a nor’easter, could dump between 1 and 8 inches over various portions of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Some forecasters predict a rain-and-snow mix for the Jersey Shore and South Jersey, while others say it will be solid rain.

The National Weather Service has placed a winter storm watch in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday, as the coastal storm moves its way into New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

At the Public Works complex in Lindenwold, more than 70 pieces of equipment stand ready to keep county roadways passable and drivers moving.

If the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to address salt and plow 400 miles of roadways across Camden County.

The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.

“As always, when the weather turns hazardous we recommend that motorists remain cautious and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations,” Leonard said. “Anyone on the roadways during these times should be prepared to encounter slick or icy road conditions.”
