A Camden County man has been sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey state prison in connection with the death of an Atlantic City man in 2017, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Johnny Morgan, 34, of Camden, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of 53-year-old Andrew McGarrigel, according to authorities.

He must serve 12 years, six months of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. Upon release, Morgan will be subject to five years of parole in accordance with the plea agreement.

Morgan knocked McGarrigel to the ground with a punch to the head on Nov. 3, 2017, according to authorities. When he hit the ground, McGarrigel was knocked unconscious.

He never regained consciousness and died of his injuries at Atlanticare Medical Center-City Campus on Nov. 23, 2017, authorities said.

The Southern Regional Medical Examiner determined McGarrigel’s cause of death to be head injuries with complications. The manner of death was determined to be homicide.
