Camden Man Sentenced to 30 Years Without Parole in 2013 Stabbing Murder

A Camden man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison without parole for a robbery-turned-killing in Camden, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced on Friday.

Alexander Santiago, 31, pleaded guilty to felony murder Sept. 5 in the stabbing murder of 45-year-old William Ahing, of Camden, on Jan. 13, 2013.

Santiago said he was attempting to rob Ahing, and ended up stabbing him multiple times around 2:30 p.m. that day on the 500 block of State Street in Camden.

Ahing’s mother was in court for the sentencing. She read a statement that described her son as a gentle giant who was kind and considerate.

“My heart aches to know that I can never reach out and hold my son again, hug and kiss my son, tell my son I love him,” Jeanette Ahing told the court. “I will never again see him with his brother or playing with his young nieces. I pray each day for God to help me understand why such a good man was taken so brutally.

“Although being here today may provide some closure, it will never bring my son Billy back to us – my heart and my family will never be the same.”
