Comments: Carlton Chin for Haddonfield BoE

Hi Scott, Beth, Eric, and other readers,

Thank you for you comments and interest.  I am writing my formal BoE candidacy introduction and will post it shortly.  (I tried responding in the Comment section, but it didn't "take.").

In many ways, actions speak louder than words, and I want to show that I have certain (financial and analytical) skills that will be useful for our school board and community as we plan for the future.  However, it is good to know where people are coming from, so point well-taken!

Decisions have to be made and I will help to make open-minded and informed decisions for the better good of our children, schools, and community.  For now, below are some notes.  Thank you!

Goals

  • Value for education and tax dollars.
  • Informed and fiscally responsible decisions.
  • Open collaboration.
  • I have no agenda or conflicts of interest -- besides wanting to do the best for our children, our schools, and our community.
  • "Leave everything a little better than you found it..."
Background
  • Resident of Haddonfield for 7 years.
  • Daughter in middle school.
  • Background in finance, analysis.  My skill set can be helpful for the BoE and community -- in terms of long-term planning and analysis.
Service
  • Proponent of volunteerism since high school days.
  • Involved with schools as class parent, Fundraisers, and organizer/ volunteer.
  • Work with and advise non-profits.
  • Regional Chair, MIT Educational Council.
  • Mentor and collaborator with colleges and universities such as the College of NJ, University of Chicago, MIT, and Princeton University.
Professional & Education
  • 25-year career in finance, investments, analytical research.  Practical experience as an engineer and actuary.
  • Research and analysis quoted and featured in New York Times and Wall St. Journal.
  • Have run my own business since 1996; I run a tight ship -- so I understand value and making the most of revenues.
  • Undergraduate (SB) and graduate degrees (SM) from MIT - Engineering, with concentrations in Economics and Business.

More soon!

Sincerely yours,
Carlton Chin
