On Saturday, April 12, over 800 volunteers from all around South Jersey will converge on First Presbyterian church in Haddonfield to respond to the plea of countless children who are literally starving to death. Concerned area people of all ages will pack 150,000 meals that will be shipped to malnourished children in 70 developing countries around the world.
The non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children, will deliver bulk food to the middle school gym on Lincoln Avenue, behind the church, where the volunteers will pack the food into 6-serving plastic bags that they will then seal and load in boxes for shipping. Last year, 500 local volunteers packed 109,000 meals that were sent to schools and orphanages in remote villages in Swaziland.
Money to pay for the food and supplies was largely raised at a recent Messiah Sing-Along held at Haddonfield Presbyterian, where many singers, accompanied by an orchestra made up of members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philly Pops, and students at The Curtis Institute, sang the monumental work that Handel composed to benefit children in an orphanage.
This is an opportunity for people of all ages, from 5 to 95, to make a difference in children’s impoverished lives—over 20,000 children die each day of hunger. You are urged to register to pack at http://fmsc.org/mobilepack/events. For further information, call 856-354-1718 or email umanpaul@me.com or gerviola@mac.com.
First Presbyterian Church is located at 20 Kings Highway East, one block from the PATCO Hi-Speed Line, in Haddonfield. Parking is available in the large parking lot behind the church.
