Fatal South Jersey Crash After Driver Suffers Medical Episode: Police
The 'unknown medical episode' caused her to cross the center line and hit a tree, according to State Police.
COMMERCIAL TOWNSHIP, NJ — A driver died after a medical episode caused her to strike a tree Friday afternoon in South Jersey, according to State Police. The Cumberland County crash took the life of Ingrid Hillman, 71, of Egg Harbor Township.
The collision occurred at 3:57 p.m. on Route 649 (milepost 3.5) in Commercial Township. According to the preliminary investigation, Hillman suffered an "unknown medical episode" that caused her Volkswagen Passat to cross the center line into a wooded area and hit a tree with the front end, said State Police Sgt. Philip Curry.
Officials took Hillman to Vineland Inspira, where she was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.
