Florida Man Who Killed Daughter, Grandchildren Has Criminal Record in Camden, Atlantic Counties

David C. Spirit was sentenced to three years probation as the result of two incidents in southern New Jersey in 1987.

A Florida man who killed his daughter and six grandchildren on Thursday had a criminal record in southern New Jersey.

Donald C. Spirit, 51, served prison time in both Atlantic and Camden counties.

He was born in Lindenwold, and was charged with receiving stolen property in Camden County in 1987, nj.com reports. He was put on probation for two years.

That same year, he was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon or device in Mullica Township, Atlantic County, according to NBC 40. He spent 20 days in prison and was given a year of probation in connection with that incident.

He also allegedly killed his 8-year-old son in a hunting accident in 2001, according to orlandosentinel.com.

On Thursday, Spirit shot his 28-year-old daughter to death, along with his six grandchildren, ranging in age from two months old to 11 years old.
