Haddon Heights Advances in Girls' Tennis Playoffs

They next face Collingswood, on Monday.

The eighth-seeded Haddon Heights tennis team slipped by No. 9 Bridgeton in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs, 3-2, according to statistics posted on nj.com.

Haddon Heights won at first and third singles and first doubles to advance. Sione Jones defeated Shakia Singleton, 6-0, 6-3 at first singles.

It was a little tougher at third singles, where Emily Van Frossen defeated Andrea Mendez, 6-3, 6-4. Kelsey Gesner and Jessie Tropello edged Maria Cruz and Tanija Johnson, 7-5, 6-4 at first doubles.

Mean Bleindorn dropped a close second singles match, 7-5, 6-4 to the Bulldogs’ Herminia Nava.

The first set of the second doubles match went to a tiebreaker, as Brielle Andrews and Sydney Kaczrowksi fell to Patricia Payamps and Ana Perez, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Haddon Heights now travels to face top-seeded Haddonfield on Tuesday.

Boys' soccer

West Deptford 2, Haddon Heights 0: Cole Van Dorick and RJ Eckley each scored for the Eagles. Keeper Perry Corsetti made eight saves. Kevin Keane had an assist. Haddon Heights goalkeeper Dan Pender stopped 12 shots.

Haddon Heights 7, Overbrook 0: Jesse Weick led the way with four goals to help Haddon Heights improve to 6-4. Andrew Hicks had two goals and an assist, and Teddy Davis found the back of the net.

Tom Martin had two assists and Tyler Selby added an assist.

Goalie Dan Pender made four saves. 

Haddon Heights 3, Woodbury 2: Haddon Heights rebounded from its loss to West Deptford with a thrilling overtime win. Jesse Weick scored twice, and Andrew Hicks had a goal and an assist. Jake Roselle and Nick Smith were also credited with assists.

Goalie Dan Pender mad six saves in the victory.

Haddonfield 7, Paulsboro 1: Seven different players scored to lead the Bulldogs to their second lopsided victory of the week. Goals came from Eddie Clark, Will Connell, Wyatt Dugan, Eric Kaulback, Patrick O’Malley, Luke Pease and Brendan Werner as Haddonfield improved to 8-2.

John Alemi assisted on three of those goals. Tommy Brophy, Kevin DiMedio and Albert Pera also had assists. Goalie Jonathan Baxter needed to stop just two shots. 

Haddonfield 7, Overbrook 0: Seven different players scored in the win. Luke Pease and Brendan Werner each had a goal and an assist. Other goals came from Tommy Brophy, Wyatt Dugan, Matt Fell, Jeff Sabatini and Colin Setzer. Anthony Ward had an assist. Goalies Jonathan Baxter and Eddie Clark shared the shutout, making a total of five saves.

Haddon Township 7, Lindenwold 1: Haddon Township took a 2-1 halftime lead and turned it into a blowout.

Mario Mandescu and Kyler White each scored two goals, and the team scored five second-half goals to pull away with the win.

Kyler Wade had a goal and three assists as Haddon Township remained undefeated at 9-0. Phil Mehment had a goal and an assist, and Chris Kobsar added a goal.

Bah Moo and Sean Murphy each had an assist. Goalie Scott LaPan made three saves.

Haddon Township 6, Woodbury 1: Kyler White and Matt Charlton led the way with two goals apiece. White also had two assists. Kyle Wade contributed a goal and an assist, while Jake Mulroy had a goal and Chris Kobsar had an assist.

Goalie Scott LaPan made five saves for Haddon Township, which scored four goals in the second half. 

Haddon Township 2, Collingswood 1: Elzo Dunn and Kyler White each scored in the overtime win.

Collingswood’s Michael Giordano eradicated Haddon Township’s 1-0 halftime lead with a second half goal, assisted by Mike Campbell. Goalie Patrick O’Donnell stopped 10 shots, but couldn’t prevent Haddon Township from turning an overtime opportunity into a goal and a victory.

Haddon Township keeper Scott LaPan made five saves.

Girls' soccer

Haddon Heights 4, Woodbury 1: Haddon Heights exploded for three goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Alex Pease provided two goals and an assist, while Emily Driver took credit for the other two goals. Kiersten Pease and Sarah Pinsky each recorded an assist. 

Haddon Heights 6, Overbrook 0: Chelsea Thomas’s two goals helped propel Haddon Heights to the victory. Kristen Resh, Sarah Roselle and AnnMarie Smith all had goals to help Haddon Heights improve to 7-4.

Haddonfield 7, Overbrook 0: Seven different players scored in the win. Shailyn Hatcher, Kylie Kirk and Kate Walters each had a goal and an assist. Other goals came from Kaitlyn Bonnet, Nikki Gavranich, Lauren Roberts and Mary Sabia.

Madison Castellano, Natalie Scott and Miranda Toci provided assists. 

Haddonfield 7, Paulsboro 0: For the second time in three days, seven different Bulldogs scored and the defense shut out their opponent. Kylie Kirk and Laura Stanton each had a goal and an assist, while Nikki Gavranich, Hannah Goodman, Mary Sabia and Miranda Toci each tallied a score.

Kaitlyn Bonnet assisted on two goals, and Madison Castellano added an assist.

Haddon Township 1, Woodbury 0: Kim Gaskill finally conquered Woodbury goalie Madison Stebich in overtime. After two scoreless periods and 19 saves by Stebich, Gaskill found the back of the net with an assist from Andrea Peterson. Haddon Township goalie Sarah Getzinger helped Haddon Township stay in the game, stopping nine shots to pick up the shutout victory.

Haddon Township 8, Lindenwold 0: Kim Gaskill and Leah Palo led the way with two goals apiece, as Haddon Township found the back of the net six times in the first half.

Emma Acar, Maureen Agnew, Katie Burns and Brenna Smith each scored to help Haddon Township improve to 6-3.
