Haddon Township Awarded $25K Grant For Playground Improvements

The grant money was awarded by the county this week.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Haddon Township will receive a $25,000 grant from the county for a recreation project. The 2017 Recreation Facility Enhancement Project Grant money is earmarked for new playground improvements at New Jersey Avenue Playground, county officials announced this week.

It’s part of $824,860 in grant money funded through the Camden County Open Space Preservation Trust Fund. The money is designated for existing publicly owned recreation facilities that are planning to expand.

“These grants are an opportunity to build and enhance our parks and playgrounds throughout the county. We know these passive and active recreational offerings make Camden County a special place to live and improve our overall quality of life,” Camden County Freeholder Jeffery L. Nash, liaison to the Open Space Preservation Trust Fund Advisory Committee, said. “This year’s applications represented a wide range of projects throughout the county. We appreciate the hard work and planning that went into each request.”

Haddon Township submitted an application detailing their plans to the advisory committee. All requests for funding are limited to $25,000 per project, per year, and the project must be finished within a year.

The Camden County Open Space Preservation Trust Fund was created by the Freeholder Board in 1999 in response to overwhelming voter support of an open space referendum placed on the ballot in November of 1998.
