Haddon Township Native Earns National Academic Honor at Stockton University

Sarah Gawrysiak was among 21 Stockton field hockey players recognized for her academic achievements.

Haddon Township native Sarah Gawrysiak is among 21 members of the Stockton University field hockey team who qualified for the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad, the University announced on Monday.

The freshman was recognized for having a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the fall 2014 semester.

As a team, the Ospreys registered the best team GPA in the nation for the fall term with a 3.76 mark.

Winters was among five players who qualified for the fourth time in their career. The others: Cassie Kirk (Middletown/Middletown South), Sam Levine (Montville/Montville), Stephanie Reichardt (Oakhurst/Ocean Twp.) and Lindsey Treptow (Bordentown/Bordentown).

Those five were joined by fellow seniors Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) and Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.).

Juniors Samantha Barcia (Berlin/Eastern) and Averi Olive (Sea Isle City/Hammonton) earned the academic honor along with sophomores Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley), Molly McElwee (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) and Corinne Russo (Ringwood/Lakeland).

Eight freshmen garnered spots on the NFHCA National Academic Squad in their first semester of college. The group was topped by Katie O’Brien (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) who was the lone Osprey to collect Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction status for achieving a grade point average of 3.90 or higher.

The other rookies to qualify were Rebecca Bausher (New Egypt/New Egypt), Lauren Berry (Haskell/Lakeland), Caroline Bowman (Ocean City/Ocean City) and Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City).
