Haddon Township Police Department Named in Lawsuit Concerning 2012 Suspect's Death

A $10 million federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of Shron Norman's sister, the Courier Post reports.

Police departments in Haddon Township, Collingswood, Oaklyn, Woodlynne and Camden have been named in a federal lawsuit that seeks $10 million in damages following the death of a Paulsboro man in 2012, the Courier Post reports.

The suit was filed on behalf of the deceased’s sister, according to the report.

Shron Norman was arrested by Haddon Township Police after allegedly threatening customers and damaging property at the Crown Fried Chicken on Mount Ephraim Avenue on Sept. 29, 2012.

He died in custody after passing out in a police car.

He was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden after officers’ attempts to revive him with CPR did not work, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said at the time of the incident.

However, the lawsuit alleges cops didn’t check on Norman and didn’t attempt to revive him once he passed out, according to the report.

It also alleges officers beat, dragged and improperly restrained Norman, leading to his death, according to the report.

While the prosecutor’s office initially said there was a struggle, it claimed an autopsy showed there was no trauma to Norman’s body.
