Haddonfield Baseball Team Opens Diamond Classic Play Saturday

Haddonfield will face Eastern in the first round.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — The Haddonfield Memorial High School baseball team begins its quest for the unofficial South Jersey championship this weekend.

The Bulldawgs face Eastern Regional in the first round of the 45th annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic on Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m., at Hammonton High School, according to the Courier Post. The winner plays the winner of the game between Clearview and Gateway in the quarterfinals.

Haddonfield earned an at-large bid to the tournament. Eastern qualified by being in first place in the Olympic Conference American Division at the cutoff.

A total of 16 teams from what is traditionally considered the South Jersey area will compete in the tournament, with 10 teams qualifying because they were in first place in their division at the cutoff date and six other teams earning at-large bids.

Haddonfield is 10-3 this season, with two of their losses coming early in the season, by one run each, according to nj.com. The Bulldawgs have scored 15 runs in two of their last three wins.

Eastern is 15-3, but with two of their three losses coming by two runs to rival Washington Township, according to nj.com.

Quarterfinal games are set for May 19, and the semifinals and finals are set for May 20, according to philly.com.
