Haddonfield Boys Basketball Team Wins SJ Title

HADDONFIELD, NJ — There was no letdown for the Haddonfield Memorial High School boys basketball team in Monday night’s sectional final.

The second-seeded Bulldawgs defeated No. 5 Lower Cape May to win the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 title on Monday night, according to nj.com. Aiden Blake lead the way with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Will Bond and Mike DePersia also reached double digits, with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Bond had three rebounds, two assists and two steals, and DePersia had six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Patrick Holden lead Lower Cape May with 19 points.

The win came just a few days after Haddonfield edged No. 3 Camden, 54-53, in the semifinals. DePersia had the game-winning putback in overtime to end Camden’s streak of five straight sectional titles.

The team could’ve had a letdown in the championship game following the historic win, but Haddonfield never lost focus in a season in which it played home games at Cherry Hill East due to renovations at its own gym, and played through injuries to key players.

Haddonfield opened the tournament with a 62-44 win over No. 15 Cape May Tech. Dylan Heine lead the way with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals and a blocked shot.

In the quarterfinals, the Bulldawgs defeated No. 7 Haddon Heights, 52-45. Dan Fleming had 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots in the win.

Haddonfield (27-3) will face Central Jersey Champion Rumson-Fair Haven (25-2) in the State Group 2 semifinals on Wednesday night, March 7, 7 p.m. at Perth Amboy.
