Haddonfield Boys Dominate Colonial Conference All Star Meet
Derek Gess wins as Bulldogs take top seven spots
The Colonial Conference All Star Meet was moved from Haddonfield’s home course of Pennypacker Park for the first time in its present form, but the change of venue didn't throw the Bulldog boys. After invading the turf of West Deptford Park, they set off in a leading pack that monopolized the competition, securing all seven of the top spots. Leading the way was Derek Gess, who won his third straight Conference meet in a time only one second off the course record of 16:14 held by Sean McPherson of Sterling. Haddonfield now holds seven of the top ten times on this course, as Derek was closely followed by Greg Eisenhower (16:18), Martin Riddell (16:21), Griffin Weiner (16:24), Ethan Spellmeyer (16:29) Stephen Kasko (also 16:29) and Andrew Gostovich (16:31), all of whom arrived before the first runner from another school, Liam Duffy of Haddon Township. Haddonfield’s performance helps put their top runners in line for first team All Conference designation, as well as securing the meet’s team championship. In addition to their top seven, Grayson Fasolo took ninth and Tommy Neveling and Caleb Clevenger both secured positions in the top twenty for the varsity.
The Haddonfield JV team was nearly as dominating. John Hurly took the individual crown, followed by the Bulldogs’ Ryan Colflesh and freshman Matt O’Leary. Fellow freshman Andrew Sullivan in seventh, Zach Murray in eleventh and freshman Ethan Wellborn in 17th showed the depth of the team and the promise for the future.
The next big meet for the Bulldogs will be the South Jersey Sectional Championships at Delsea on Saturday, November 3, where Haddonfield will be going for its fifteenth straight championship.
