Haddonfield, NJ -- The Haddonfield Foundation has once again provided much needed funds to another Haddonfield organization with the award of a $2000 project grant to the Haddonfield Garden Club. This grant money will assist the Garden Club with installing a professional irrigation system for the Bette Powell Memorial Garden at the Interfaith Caregivers Facility behind Borough Hall.

Due to the repair of a gas leak on the premises earlier in the season the Garden Club reevaluated the existing garden design and supplemented with additional plantings. A reliable irrigation system will insure that the current as well as new plantings and shrubs will be supported. The Haddonfield Garden Club has committed to covering the routine annual system costs and minor repairs.

This garden, installed approximately 10 years ago following Bette Powell’s sudden death in 2004, has been a botanical oasis in the Borough Hall parking lot. Mrs. Powell was a much-loved volunteer in both the Garden Club and Interfaith Caregivers organizations. In a sense this treasure, in honor of her memory, has become a community garden for Haddonfield residents to admire in their visits to Borough Hall, the Post Office and nearby businesses. Passersby often comment on the Garden to Garden Club members while they are tending the site.

For more than 25 years, The Haddonfield Foundation has fostered charitable giving for public purposes within the Borough of Haddonfield and among its citizenry to promote, maintain, and enhance the quality of life. The Foundation has granted over $1,000,000 since its beginning. The Foundation is now affiliated with the Community Foundation of South Jersey which offers back-office services, investment oversight, and planned giving support.
