Haddonfield High School Football Team Falls in Playoff Semifinals

The Bulldawgs held the halftime lead, but Cedar Creek rallied for the win.

The Cedar Creek High School football team’s second rally of the playoffs spelled the end for Haddonfield’s dreams of a South Jersey championship.

Third-seeded Cedar Creek upset No. 2 Haddonfield, 14-9, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II playoffs Friday night, according to nj.com.

Cedar Creek will face top-seeded West Deptford, a 21-10 semifinal winner over No. 4 Buena, at Rowan University in the championship game on Dec. 4.

Haddonfield held a 9-7 lead at halftime, but the Pirates’ defense shut out the Bulldawgs in the second half. Bo Melton scored the game-winning touchdown on a 69-yard run in the third quarter.

He scored Cedar Creek’s other touchdown as well, on a 13-yard run that put the Pirates on the board first, in the first quarter.

Haddonfield took the lead with two scores in the second quarter.

Tommy Kadar pulled the Bulldawgs to within one on a 6-yard touchdown run, and Drew Tomlinson gave them the lead with a 39-yard field goal.

For Cedar Creek, it was the second rally of the playoffs. Last week, the Pirates came from behind to defeat No. 6 Collingswood, 21-20, in the quarterfinals.

Haddonfield opened the playoffs with a 10-7 win over No. 7 Woodstown in the quarterfinals.

The Bulldawgs fell to 8-2 with a game left to go. The Bulldawgs visit Haddon Heights on Thanksgiving morning, 11 a.m.
