Haddonfield Native Drafted By Seattle Mariners

Will Gambino was drafted in the 35th round of the MLB Draft on Wednesday.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Will Gambino heard his name called Wednesday afternoon. The Paul VI pitcher from Haddonfield was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 35th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.

The 6’2, 205-pound right-handed pitcher was the 1,048th overall pick. He has committed to play at the University of Kentucky.

He struck out 85 batters and gave up three home runs over the last two seasons, according to the Haddonfield Sun. He threw 74 innings in that span.

Being drafted first became a reality to Gambino before his junior year, when he moved to the mound from the plate. Before then, he thought about his baseball career only in terms of playing NCAA Division I baseball, according to the Courier Post.
