Haddonfield Wrestling Team Nabs No. 2 Seed In Playoffs

The Bulldawgs open the tournament at home against Sterling Monday night.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — If things work out for the Haddonfield Memorial High School wrestling team, it may host all its playoff matches.

Haddonfield is the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 tournament, according to nj.com. The Bulldawgs will host No. 7 Sterling in the first round on Monday night, Feb. 5. The winner faces the winner of the match between No. 3 Cinnaminson and No. 6 West Deptford in the semifinals on Feb. 7.

As the No. 2 overall seed, Haddonfield would have home field advantage in the first two rounds of the tournament. All it would need to host the Feb. 9 final is an upset of No. 1 Point Pleasant Boro somewhere along the way.

Point Pleasant Boro hosts No. 8 Barnegat in the first round on Monday night, Feb. 5. The winner faces the winner of the match between No. 4 Delran and No. 5 Oakcrest in the semifinals on Feb. 7.

An upset would appear to be a tall task, as Point Pleasant Boro has lost just once this season, and is blowing out opponents in its victories.

Should it face Point Pleasant Boro, Haddonfield would bring a gaudy record of its own into the final. The Bulldawgs are 18-3 this season, with two of those losses coming to teams from outside the state, and the third coming at the hands of undefeated Paulsboro. Haddonfield started the season with eight straight wins.
