Increase in Thefts Of Cars, Items From Cars, Reported In Haddonfield

HADDONFIELD, NJ – A warning from the Haddonfield Police Department is also spurring a reminder to its residents.

There has been an uptick in car thefts and thefts of items from cars in the borough, according to the police department’s Facebook page.

“In all cases, the vehicles stolen were left unlocked with the keys/fobs inside the vehicle. As for the theft of belongings, all the vehicles were left unlocked as well,” the post reads. “Please remember to lock your vehicle and take the keys and fobs!”

The police department also encourages residents to leave their outdoor lights on at night or to use motion-activated lights, keep valuables out of sight (or out of the car as much as possible) and if you are the victim of a theft, to let police know.

State data indicate the increase in car thefts is not limited to Haddonfield.

Earlier this year, New Jersey state officials released data that indicated in 2021, there were a total of 14,320 cars stolen in New Jersey, a 22 percent increase from 2020.
