Investigation Into Killing Of NJ Detective Continues: What We Know

BRIDGETON, NJ — The investigation into the shooting death of a Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office detective continues, with no arrests announced as of Thursday afternoon.

Here's what we know about the killing of Sgt. Monica Mosley.

Mosley Killed In Her Home

Bridgeton police were called Tuesday night for a report of several people kicking in the front door of a home on the 600 block of Buckshutem Road. Arriving officers found Mosley after she was shot to death.

Police say Mosley, 51, was killed during a home invasion.

Multiple Suspects, No Arrests

Multiple suspects entered and exited Mosley's home during the break-in, according to State Police. But no suspects are in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

One person was detained for questioning as of Wednesday morning. Authorities have not disclosed their identity but said they were being treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden for a gunshot wound after the killing.

Investigation Took Authorities To Hospitals

After Mosley was found dead, further investigation brought officers to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton. State Police then reported to Cooper Hospital, where the person was detained.

It's unclear how many people were wounded during the shooting of Mosley. And officials haven't disclosed whether they went to Inspira to see the person wanted for questioning or a different individual.

Severely injured patients around the region sometimes get transferred to Cooper, which is South Jersey's largest hospital.

Who Was Monica Mosley?

Mosley joined the prosecutor's office in 2006 as a paralegal specialist. She became a county detective three years later and ultimately reached the rank of sergeant.

She was a mother, grandmother and friend to many, whose smile could light up a room, according to State PBA President Peter Andreyev.

County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae called Mosley "a constant friend and role model."

Throughout her career, Mosley worked in various CCPO units, including Trial Teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit, and as the unit supervisor for internal affairs.

Multiple Agencies Investigating

State Police are leading the investigation, while the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office is prosecuting the case. Anyone with information on this incident can contact the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office at 609-465-1135. Tips can be anonymous.
