Joseph “Joe” Murphy is the 2017 recipient of the HCA's Driscoll Award

The Haddonfield Civic Association (HCA) is pleased to announce that Joseph “Joe” Murphy has been chosen as the 2017 recipient of the Alfred E. Driscoll Award for Community Service. Mr. Murphy will be presented the Award at the HCA’s Annual Meeting and Town Dinner on April 29, 2017 at Tavistock Country Club

“On behalf of the Haddonfield Civic Association, I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2017 Alfred E. Driscoll Community Service Award is Joe Murphy,” said Dennis Tully, HCA President. “The Board of Governors is very impressed with his extensive contributions to Haddonfield. The Driscoll Award was created to recognize the role models in our community with the hope that others will be inspired to do the same. Joe is a perfect example of the ‘uncommon’ volunteer the Driscoll Award seeks to honor.”

A long time Haddonfield resident, Mr. Murphy has actively volunteered for various civic, arts, and educational organizations for more than 20 years. Over the years, he has generously devoted his time and expertise to Borough committees, events and organizations in several capacities, often in leadership positions.

Mr. Murphy’s work with the Friends of the Indian King and Dance Haddonfield are perhaps his most well-known. As the Founder and President of the Friends of the Indian King, he led the fight to keep the Tavern open when the state threatened to close it, and helped lead it to institute such events as the beer tasting and the Revolutionary War skirmish on Kings Highway. As a Founder and leader of Dance Haddonfield, he started the Sunday night dance in 2000 and has worked to keep it part of Haddonfield for 17 years.

“The HCA recognizes Joe for his years of leadership and dedication to numerous organizations,” said Tully. “He has made, and continues to make, an impact on the Haddonfield community through his commitment to sharing his expertise, his countless hours of dedication to numerous causes, his unrivaled philanthropy and his infectious desire to assist others.”

Professionally, Mr. Murphy has been a tireless champion of compliance and ethics in organizations for over 40 years, and has done compliance work on six continents. He has published over 100 articles and given over 200 presentations in 19 countries. He is a Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional and a member of the board of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics. Mr. Murphy was named one of The National Law Journal’s 50 Governance, Risk and Compliance Trailblazers and Pioneers 2014 and was a recipient of the SCCE Compliance and Ethics Award.

He currently lives in Haddonfield with his daughter Sara and two young grandsons. Joe also has a son, a psychologist, who resides in Santa Barbara, CA.

The community is welcome to attend the HCA’s Annual Meeting and Town Hall on April 29, 2017 at Tavistock Country Club. In addition to honoring Mr. Murphy as the Driscoll Award winner, the HCA will also recognize the Bradshaw Essay Contest Winners and the Kaufmann Award Performing Arts Recipient from Haddonfield Memorial High School.
