Lourdes Burlington Offers Safe Sitter Course

Class helps prepare adolescents on how to care for a younger child

It’s usually around 11 years-old that a preteen may seem ready to sit for younger child, but it takes more than being a specific age to care for little ones, say child care experts.

To help prepare adolescents, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County is hosting a two-day Safe Sitter course. The nationally recognized instructional program teaches boys and girls ages 11- to 13-years-old life-saving skills and how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The course also covers injury prevention, child development, and age-appropriate activities.

Lourdes Safe Sitter class will be held Wednesday, August 3, and Thursday, August 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County—participants meet in the main lobby at 5:30. To successfully complete the program, participants must attend both days and pass a practical and written test to demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts and skills necessary to care for children.
