Lourdes Community Outreach Programs Requests Volunteers

Outreach programs assist seniors and the disabled

CAMDEN, NJ—Lourdes is requesting volunteers for two of its community outreach programs designed to assist seniors and the disabled.

Helping Hands is currently in need of volunteers. Volunteers provide Camden County participants with vehicle transportation to and from their appointments or non-medical tasks, such as driving to the pharmacy and running errands. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement.

Senior Companions, part of a national Senior Corps program, has long-served families and seniors in Camden, Gloucester and Burlington counties. Volunteers age 55 and older provide assistance and friendship to adults who have difficulty with daily living non-medical tasks.

Volunteers help these adults remain independent and give families or professional caregivers much-needed time off from their duties. They may provide friendship to clients and/or run errands. Senior Companions serve 20 to 40 hours per week, helping an average of two to four adult clients live independently in their own homes.

Volunteers for both programs receive pre-service orientation and supplemental insurance while on duty. Eligible volunteers must meet specific requirements.
