Man Charged With Murder In South Jersey; Feds Found Him Weeks Later: Prosecutor

Federal and county law enforcement apprehended the suspect in Union County, authorities said.

MILLVILLE, NJ — Authorities apprehended a man Tuesday who was charged weeks prior in a South Jersey murder case, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office said.

Marlon D. Thompson was arrested Tuesday without incident in Roselle, Union County, officials said. Members of the prosecutor's office and the US Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force apprehended him.

The Millville man fatally shot Salmadine Johnson, another city resident, on July 25, according to the prosecutor's office.

Thompson was charged three days later with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Millville police responded at about 4:45 p.m. July 25 to the report of shots fired on the 600 block of High Street. Arriving officers found Johnson, 40, dead at the scene, the prosecutor's office said.

In a July 26 news release, the prosecutor's office said Johnson died from an "apparent stabbing wound," based on the preliminary examination from the medical examiner's investigator. Following a subsequent autopsy, authorities determined he was fatally shot.

The state will move for Thompson's continued detention.
