At the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Nevan Soumilas presented evidence and testimony showing Mosby killed Carey because Carey interfered as Mosby was beating his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him earlier in the day, according to the prosecutor's office.
When the alleged assault spilled into a common area of the home, Carey intervened in an attempt to protect the woman and her toddler, according to the prosecutor's office. The evidence presented at trial showed that Mosby shot Carey once in the torso and then fled the scene, according to the prosecutor's office.
