New Affordable Housing Comes To Haddonfield

This is the first-ever option of its kind in the borough for families.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — A new affordable housing era began in the Haddonfield community on Saturday.

"The Place," located at 20 Snowden Ave., is made up of 20 apartments across two new buildings downtown and is now available for rent.

This development has been years in the making and serves as a major milestone for a group of affordable housing advocates in the state.

"Over the decades, nearly all of Fair Share's attorneys have contributed in some way to advancing affordable housing in Haddonfield," Esmé Devenney, senior staff attorney at Fair Share Housing Center, told Patch.

This is the borough's first-ever affordable rental community that is available to families.

After the implementation of New Jersey's new affordable housing law, Haddonfield was able to adopt a comprehensive plan in less than a year.

"This development offers a rare and much-needed pathway for those who would otherwise be priced out of living in the community," Devenney added. "It will hopefully be the first of other opportunities to come."

The nonprofit Fair Share Housing Center utilizes legal, policy, and other community-building measures to secure opportunities for residents to live in safe, healthy, and affordable units statewide.
