New Case Of Coronavirus Reported In Oaklyn

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — An Oaklyn man in his 40s was among an additional 121 cases of new coronavirus that were announced throughout Camden County on Thursday. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

Officials also announced that a Voorhees woman in her 80s has died after testing positive for the coronavirus. This brings the aggregate number of confirmed positive cases in Camden County to 2,432, with 97 fatalities as of Thursday.

The Camden County Health Department announced 408 total confirmed cases have been identified in the county’s 56 long-term care facilities, with 70 of the county’s 97 total fatalities. This means nursing homes have accounted for 72 percent of the county’s coronavirus deaths as of Thursday.

“This virus has already taken an enormous toll on our community, and it saddens me to announce that today another soul succumbed to this sinister disease. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families who have lost a loved one as well as those who have tested positive and are working toward recovery,” Camden County Freeholder Louis Cappelli, Jr. said. “Make no mistake that as communities in other parts of the country race to reopen their economy, despite the warnings of health officials, the Freeholder Board will continue to take every action necessary to ensure the health and safety of our residents. We cannot let our desire to return to the old way of living blur our judgement and jeopardize our safety. The residents of Camden County, by and large, understand this message and have done a tremendous job fighting the spread of coronavirus. If we continue to be diligent and stay home, we will be able to return to the new normal much sooner.”

How It Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19.

While the best way to prevent illness is to avoid virus exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention always recommends taking preventive actions to contain the spread of viruses.
This includes:

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
