Oaklyn Man Attempted To Meet Teenage Girl For Sex: Police

Heriberto Rivera was arrested when he went to meet with someone he thought was a teenage girl for sex, but who was actually a detective.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — An Oaklyn man has been arrested and charged after police say he attempted to meet with a teenager for sex. Heriberto Rivera, Jr., 31, was arrested when he went to meet with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl, but was actually an undercover officer, in Gloucester City on Feb. 23, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell said on Monday.

Rivera, who works at Tavistock Country Club and Wal-Mart, believed he was sending sexually explicit messages to a 14-year-old girl, but was actually sending them to an undercover detective with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office’s High Tech Crime Unit, police said.

He was charged with second-degree luring, attempted criminal sexual assault, attempt to endanger the welfare of a child, attempted criminal sexual contact, and attempt to send obscene material to a minor.

He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 28. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.

These charges were the result of an investigation conducted by the High-Tech Crimes Unit of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations – Cherry Hill division.
