Report: Police Officer in South Jersey Injured While Attempting to Prevent Getaway

A Riverside cop was struck while reporting to a report of a suspicious vehicle early Saturday, according to the Burlington County Times.

A police officer in South Jersey was badly hurt after being struck and dragged by a car, the Burlington County Times reports.

Brandon Belton, 23, of Willingboro, and Bonnie Manning, 39, of Riverside, each face numerous charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer and attempted manslaughter, after hitting Riverside Police Sgt. Amaya Urtasun early Saturday morning, according to the report.

Urtasun, a 17-year-veteran of the force, was struck as Belton allegedly attempted to escape during questioning. Urtasun was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Riverside Elementary School, according to the report.

She was hospitalized with knee and abdominal injuries, according to the report.
