Scam Email Targets Haddonfield Residents, Businesses With Fake Invoice
Local officials warned that the scammers could start sending fraudulent invoices from other departments of the borough government.
HADDONFIELD, NJ — Officials are warning Haddonfield residents and businesses about a fraudulent invoice that's been circulating this week.
The scam message claims to be from Haddonfield's Planning Board chair and requests thousands of dollars for a recent sign application that was approved, officials said.
The emails have included some accurate information and the borough seal. But the email address was wrong, with an added "@usa.com."
"This invoice is not legitimate," the borough said in an advisory. "If you receive an unexpected payment request — especially one that seems unusually high — do not send money."
If you receive an email like this, contact the department that allegedly sent it to verify.
