Seven Years Later, Investigation Into Rowan University Student's Murder Continues

A $100,000 reward is still available for information in the case of a Morris County student who was killed in 2007.

A $100,000 reward is still being offered for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of those involved in a fatal attack on a Rowan University sophomore from Morris County in 2007, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

Donald Farrell III, of Boonton, was killed in a Homecoming Weekend assault on Oct. 27, 2007 near Rowan’s Triad Apartment building.

Witnesses described four or five black males who approached Farrell and asked for directions to a party. Farrell was then punched and kicked in the head and neck by one or two of the males before the group fled with his wallet.

It is also believed that the hoodie-wearer used a nickname, “Smoke.”

In addition to the reward, there are billboards erected that attempt to bring the case to the public’s attention.

Students at the University engaged in a research paper about the case, and there is a website dedicated to finding his killer.

Anyone with information about participants in the attack that caused the death of Donald Farrell III is asked to phone the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-384-5604, the Rowan University Police Department at 856-256-4564 or leave an anonymous tip by texting GLOTIP & your message and CRIMES (274637).
