South Jersey Woman Claims New Jersey Lottery is Denying Her $50,000

Confusion over the final letter on a scratch off ticket is making a difference of over $49,000, according to the Courier Post.

What appears to be a simple mistake means a difference of $49,993 to one South Jersey lottery winner.

Crystal Ellis, of Millville, believes her winning scratch-off ticket is worth $50,000, and is claiming the New Jersey Lottery is intentionally denying her her winnings, the Courier Post reports.

The New Jersey Lottery says Ellis didn’t finish scratching off her ticket. As a result, she mistook the letter “C” for the letter “O.” The Lottery says the ticket is worth $7, according to the report.

The Lottery conducted a full investigation, and explained the situation to the family, according to the report.

The ticket in question awards money based on the number of words the player finds while scratching off the crossword puzzle on the ticket. Ellis claims the Lottery would owe her at least over $100 for the number of words she scratched off.

The $50,000 prize is for finding 10 words, which i what Ellis would have found if not for the confusion over the final letter, according to the report.
