Spanish Exchange Students Still in Need of Host Family

Four students are still seeking families to stay with in the month of August.

Four of the 15 students from Spain who are coming to New Jersey as part of the South Jersey Global Friendships program are still in need of host families.

“The four students who still need host families have been placed temporarily with families that hosted last month,” said Dan Herman, S.J. Global Friendships Coordinator and an English Teacher in the Cherry Hill School District. “Last month, the 21 students that participated in the program had a great experience in America and also improved their English. I’m just trying to make sure that this August group has the same opportunity.”

A total of 15 students are participating in the August program, 11 of which have found families. They are all part of a group program, which affords them the opportunity to attend English classes in Haddonfield three days per week. The classes will be held at Grace Church.

The students’ itinerary also includes full day excursions to New York City, Ocean City, and Great Adventure as well as 1/2 day activities, including a River Sharks game, a bowling party, and a trip to Philadelphia.

Host families are invited, but not required, to attend all of the trips and activities. Transportation is included and tickets to events are greatly discounted.

Host families come in all shapes and sizes, but a family that hosts must consist of at least two people. The host provides the students with a bed to sleep in, meals, and some transportation.
The host family gains insight into the culture and lifestyle in Spain. The experience affords the family an opportunity to help shape a young person’s life while serving as an ambassador for America.
