Stuff A Bus To Feed The Needy In Camden County

The food drive benefits the county's Meals on Wheels program.

Camden County residents are invited to “Stuff a Bus” at Senior Citizens United Community Services, Inc. (SCUCS) to benefit Camden County’s Meals on Wheels program.

“Help us fill the bus in the parking lot at SCUCS with food and donations this holiday season,” Camden County Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services, said. “Camden County Nutrition program through SCUCS delivers daily meals to our older neighbors who are physically or mentally unable to leave their homes.”

The Camden County Meals on Wheels Program is funded in part by the Freeholder Board. The “Stuff a Bus” food drive will help stretch the program’s budget, and raise awareness for the Meals on Wheels program in Camden County. SCUCS is located at 537 Nicholson Road in Audubon.

“Many Camden County seniors, particularly those 75 and older, low income and especially those who are homebound are at the greatest risk of suffering from a form of malnutrition,” SCUCS CEO Stephen Considine said. “The Camden County Nutrition Program strives to meet these needs through our many food programs. We are grateful for this grant and the opportunity to stock our food pantry and reach many more seniors experiencing hunger in our community.”

SCUCS is also participating in the annual Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America – one of four national Share the Love charitable partners.

From Nov. 17, 2016, to Jan. 3, 2017, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of participating charity.

“It is a true testament to the value of Meals on Wheels and the strength of our nationwide network that Subaru of America and its customers choose to give back to this vital service year after year,” Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander said. “Since its inception, Share the Love has helped deliver more than 1.4 million meals to seniors served by Meals on Wheels. It is our hope that this year’s event ensures that even more seniors receive the nourishment they need to continue living independently at home.”
