Wanted in South Jersey: Jonathan Bateman

Bateman is wanted for failure to appear on a charge of eluding.

Jonathan W. Bateman, 30, of Deptford, is wanted for failure to appear in Superior Court

on April 8 for a pre-arraignment interview on a charge of eluding a police officer by failing to stop:

Bateman is described as 5’8,” 160 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.

On Oct. 15, 2014, Franklin Township Police attempted to stop two people riding a 4-wheeler and a dirt bike with no helmet turning onto Route 40 from Route 47 north, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. However, instead of stopping, the riders went in different directions.

The officer attempted to follow the 4-wheeler that turned onto Elmwood Avenue, but lost sight of it.

As other patrol cars were called to the scene, the motorcycles reappeared on Route 47, then fled again as officers pursued.

The officers eventually gave up trying to stop them.

Through investigation that included viewing surveillance video, police identified Bateman as the driver of the dirt bike.

He came to police headquarters Oct. 28 and was charged with eluding and numerous motor vehicle violations.

He was indicted on March 25 on a charge of third-degree eluding a law enforcement officer.
