YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties Hosts "Eat Right!" During National Nutrition Month

Bite into a healthier lifestyle with the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties and celebrate “Eat Right!” during National Nutrition Month® in March. The educational and informative nutrition campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making good food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

As part of its month-long festivities, the Y is hosting a Healthy Family Home Event on Sunday, March 22 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel YMCA located at 59 Centerton Road. The interactive event will feature tips on: how to create a balanced plate by sampling healthy foods; how to read and understand nutrition labels; and how to “color” your plate with the five food groups.

“The eating and activity habits we develop as children have a strong impact on our lifelong health and well-being so it’s critical to establish healthy behaviors early on,” says Tim Kerrihard, President and CEO of the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties. “Whether we grew up with healthy habits or not, it’s our responsibility as adults to ensure kids have a strong foundation.”

Other activities featured at the Y throughout March include: a Nutrition Nook for tips on portion sizing and super foods; and National Nutrition Month Calendar and Healthy Family Homes Starter Kit at the Welcome Center.

“It’s all about small steps in the right direction,” says Kerrihard. “Making gradual changes, introducing new foods and adapting to new tastes week by week can result in major change in the course of a year and ultimately a lifetime.”
