YMCA of Burlington & Camden Counties' Child Care and Staff Participate in Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Lunches Prepared and Donated to Crossroads Programs and Cathedral Kitchen
Children and teachers in the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties’ child care programs at the Mt. Laurel YMCA and Burlington-Riverfront YMCA and YMCA staff recently participated in a day of service in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The children, ages three to five, decorated brown paper bags, made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bagged the lunches, which also included fruit, pretzels, water and cookies. The lunches made by child care were donated to Crossroad Programs’ Cinnaminson House, residential treatment home for homeless youth ages 16 to 21 that provides an opportunity to practice the skills needed for independent living. The 400 lunches made by YMCA staff were donated to Cathedral Kitchen, the largest emergency food provider in the City of Camden.
“The Y was excited to help give back to the community by participating in these activities in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,” said Tim Kerrihard, President and CEO of YMCA and Burlington and Camden Counties. “We hope to inspire the spirit of volunteerism by engaging staff and child care children alike in rewarding activities that make a difference in the lives of others.”
