5 Fun-Filled Educational Activities to Keep Your Child’s Brain Active During the Summer

Just because school is out for summer doesn’t mean that the learning needs to stop. There are plenty of educational AND fun activities for you to do with your children. To help parents, or those just looking for a good time, we assembled our list of the top fun AND educational activities for you to do during the summer. Bring your kid to one of these places and send him or her back to school smarter than when they left!

1. Visit your local museum!

History shouldn’t only be studied on a macro level. Take a trip to your local museum to learn about the history and origins of your small part of the world. They typically rotate exhibits so you’re always guaranteed a fresh experience. If you’re in the Meadowlands Area, visit The Meadowlands Museum and check out their Alternate Reality: Steampunk & the Victorian Age Exhibit.

2. Liberty Science Center

For the young scientist, Liberty Science Center features exhibits about energy production, human communication, Rubik’s cubes, and many others. Their interactive displays will excite and engage your youngster, and you might learn a thing or two as well. Round off the day with one of their incredible IMAX films and you are guaranteed to have an amazing time!

3. Check out a zoo or aquarium

Teach your child about the wonders of life on earth and the majesty of nature by taking them to a zoo or aquarium. Nothing piques an interest in biology quite like getting up close and personal with exotic animals. 4. Field Station Dinosaurs

Have you ever wished that Jurassic Park was real? Well now it is…almost! Field Station Dinosaurs contains 32 animatronic dinosaurs along a ¾ mile trail set against the backdrop of the beautiful Meadowlands. Everyone at Field Station Dinosaurs is a scientist studying these ancient behemoths: no one receives a ticket, everybody gets credentials. The best part: You don’t have to worry about the dinosaurs breaking free!

5. Take a ride with Delaware River Railroad Excursions!

The historical society offers rides in their numerous specialty trains. Take a trip on a classical train, such as the only operating steam locomotive in NJ, or go on one of their specialty theme rides. From classic trains to Dinosaur Trains to Thomas the Tank Engine … this place runs the gamut.

It’s a long 10 weeks from late July to early September. So, fill up one or more of those days with these fun activities and you’re guaranteed to have a good time and learn something too!
