Athletes of the Week: Two Senior Track Stars

The Aviators' track team has always been defined by outstanding athletes who are dedicated and strive to push not only themselves, but also their teammates, toward excellence.

Seniors Nickie Inglesby and Marissa Romano are dedicated to these ideals, and their  triumphs inspire those who practice with them.

"Nickie and Marissa have always had a great attitude, and they're both great teammates and easy to get along with," head coach Rob Brady said. "Not only do they practice hard, but their hard work shows."

For starters, Romano was recently named to the All-County 2nd team, along toward winning the 4x4 Penn Relays. 

Inglesby set personal and school records with a 68.1 time in the 400 hurdles and a 16.6 in the 100 hurdles events.

"We feed off each other," Romano said. "We've known each other since middle school, and we know how to motivate each other."

Inglesby agreed. "Everybody on the team has known each other for a long time, even some of their parents grew up together."

Both girls are undecided about which colleges they will be attending, but they seem to have an idea of what fields they would like to get involved in. Inglesby is interested in becoming a high school teacher, while Romano has her sights set on law enforcement, specifically the FBI.

So what do Inglesby and Romano enjoy doing when they are not practicing or studying for exams?

"Cheesburgers" is their answer. Though the team is successful and does not have any concerns with their conditioning, going out as a group to enjoy cheeseburgers is their favorite pastime.

"It's a way for us to unwind and just relax," Inglesby explained.
