Bergen Man Punched Woman In The Face, Robbed Her At ATM: Police

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Garfield man is accused of punching a woman in the face and robbing her at an ATM Sunday night, police said.
John Renke, 23, was charged with robbery and taken to the Bergen County Jail Monday, said Chief Raymond Kovach.
Garfield police received a report of a robbery at an ATM at the back of Spencer Savings Bank on Outwater Lane at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Kovach said.

A 31-year-old woman reported she had just withdrawn money from the ATM when a man punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground, and stole her money, Kovach said.
Police officers investigated and located a suspect they later identified as Renke, at a Franklin Avenue residence just two blocks from the bank, the chief said.

Renke was arrested for an active bench warrant and later charged him with second-degree robbery in connection with the Sunday incident, Kovach said.
Renke was taken to Bergen County Jail Monday, police said.
