Board of Education Commends Students for Achievements
HS student wins first place in county law essay contest

Following the board of education’s reorganization meeting Friday night, board members reconvened for a regular public meeting where they celebrated students’ recent accomplishments.
High school student Jennifer Chang was presented with a certificate for outstanding achievement for winning first place in the Bergen County Law Day Essay Contest. Students were asked to write on the subject of what improvements he or she would make if elected President.
Dr. Mark Porto, superintendent of schools, commended Chang for this accomplishment pointing out that she came in first among a sea of students from some of the best schools in the county, many of which have law classes.
Porto told the audience that he was asked to read some of the essays before they were submitted to the contest and recalls being impressed by the level of writing which he considered college level.
