Board Of Education Approves Teacher Transfers Within the District

Board held special meeting Thursday night to vote on resolution to transfer 17 teachers within the district.

The approved the transfer of 17 teachers to other schools within the district next year during a special meeting Thursday night.

The board voted 6 to 1 in favor of the transfers, with Connie Doheney casting the lone dissenting vote.  Robert Salerno abstained and Joseph Rinke was not in attendance. Doheney said the board could have waited for a future meeting to vote on the issue, rather than call a special meeting.

Dr. Mark Porto, superintendent of schools, said the transfers would help build educational programs for students and place teachers where they fit.

The resolution was initially on the agenda for the May 6 school board meeting, but was tabled. Board President Josephine Ciocia said a special meeting was called in order to give the district enough time to prepare for the transfers.

Some teachers will move from the elementary school level to the middle or high school, while others will move from the high school or middle school down to the elementary or pre-school level.
