Hasbrouck Heights Warriors Capture 2012 Senior Division Softball Championship

The Hasbrouck Heights Warriors Softball Team became the first girls team in Hasbrouck Heights to win the Senior Division Softball Championship for the South Bergen Girls Softball League.

On Sunday, June 10th, 2012, the Warriors Softball Team became the first girls team in Hasbrouck Heights to win the Senior Division Softball Championship for the South Bergen Girls Softball League (SBGSL).

The road these girls travelled to get to this point was a long one that started back in 2007.   At that time, the current 8th grade girls made up three teams to complete a 3rd / 4th grade division that played each other in town 5 times each.  Girls did not enter the SBGSL travel league until 5th grade.

In 2008, that all changed.  Two teams of 3rd / 4th grade girls entered the travel arena of the SBGSL for the first time and through the efforts of a few volunteers, the support of Rob Brady and the care and attention from the parents along with the determination of these girls, Hasbrouck Heights Softball improved with each year in the SBGSL.  That same year, these girls accepted the challenge to enter a Fast Pitch All Star League, the Summer UGALS for a 10U team.  Fast forward to 2012, and there are now 3 Heights teams in the UGALS League, 10U, 12U and 17U.

The players from that 10U UGALS team of 2008 were on that softball field on June 10, 2012  represented by the two teams from Hasbrouck Heights that played each other for the Championship.  The Warriors won this game 3 - 1.   In retrospect though, Hasbrouck Heights became the big winner this day.

Congratulations to the 2012 Senior Division Champions: Alyssa Bevacqua, Meghan Bischoff, Ornella Borsani, Sabrina Chedid, Stephanie Dallara, Caela Garden, Meghan Keahey, Shelli Nielsen, Megan O'Leary, Sami Partyka, Jillian Sears and Jennifer Varga.  The team was managed by Ken Partyka with Assistant Coaches, Gene Dallara, Dan Sears and Doug Keahey.

To the girls of softball, as in the words of Mia Hamm, " Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back... play for her. "
